The CIT program is a two week leadership development session designed to prepare participants for possible future counselor positions. Ages: 15 years only GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATIONStarting in 2012, male CITs will live in Raganeau while female CITs will live in Chabanel. Unlike past years, housing assignments will remain consistent for the duration of the two week program. The first week will consist of programming designed to assess and improve one's leadership and team skills. Second week CITs will be assigned to assist in an activity area and will concentrate on developing skills related to that particular activity area. A select number of CITs, likely no more than 6 - 8 per session, will be asked to stay a third week to assist a Unit Leader in his/her unit. Because CITs are technically campers themselves, they are never left solely in charge of campers. CIT SELECTIONThe selection process for each applicant begins with program registration (see registration link above). Camp Ondessonk will then send each on-line registrant detailed application and program information. To officially apply and gain admission, applicants must submit a CIT application and references. Applicants not accepted will receive a full refund. For those not able to register on-line, paper registration materials will be available by the end of January, 2012. Please contact Becky Jennings, Camp Registrar, at 618-695-2489 ext. 109 for more information. Applications will be reviewed in mid-March. Since you have plenty of time to complete this application, prepare it well. Your selection as a CIT will depend heavily upon the quality of your application and the strength of your references. It is the responsibility of the CIT to ensure references are sent to Camp Ondessonk. Camp Ondessonk is not responsible for letting CIT's know that they are missing reference forms. CIT applications received after mid-March will be reviewed on a space available basis only. WEEKEND DUTIESOn the Saturday between weeks 1 and 2 of the program, CIT’s will participate in special programming. Therefore, it is not appropriate to leave camp during this time. Late arrivals and early departures will not be allowed. The CIT program is a two week program. Please set aside two full weeks in order to participate. WHEN CHOOSING YOUR MAJOR...Keeping in mind the fact that the major goal of our CIT Program is to develop leadership skills desired in Ondessonk counselors, it is very important you choose your major carefully based upon your own interests (not those of your friends). WHAT TO BRINGPack enough for for two weeks, as there are no laundry facilities available at camp. If you are assigned to stay a third week, access to laundry services will be made available. You will need a battery-operated or wind-up alarm clock and pencils/pens and paper for taking notes. More information will be provided upon admission to the program. If you are given a Horsemanship major, you will need to pack extra jeans and sturdy boots with a heel. An extra swimsuit is required for aquatics majors and extra hiking shoes/boots are required for nature. |
